A friend of mine, RavenTheMagicCat
, posted about being sick of seeing porn on deviantART's front page. It had me thinking of what you would consider true art, and what you would think is worthy of posting here as opposed to on Photoshop/Tumblr. Here's a few definitive things I would say definitely wouldn't go on your deviantART page without breaking the policies in some way:
- Screenshots of a show/game. These don't belong to you.
- Motivational posters using someone else's artwork or screenshots of a show/game. This is very minimal editing, not enough to count as a derivative work.
Some people may argue that graphic editing fits snugly into this category as well. I personally disagree depending on how much the graphic is edited. If it's simply cut, then yes, but if it's color adjusted, layered with certain effects, uses multiple images, etc., then should it not count as artwork in its own way? Yes, it's editing something and credit goes where credit is due, but an AMV is no less of an AMV though you're using official clips.
What are your thoughts? What should be counted as not acceptable to post here on deviantART because it's not "artwork"?
